In a few weeks my family and I will be going on a road trip and although it won’t be the first time we will bring Nathaniel along, it will be his first long road trip so I want to make sure that I prepare very well. This year we will be heading to Houston to visit family. Traveling can sometimes take a toll on adults let alone kids/babies/toddlers. So it’s quite important that I pack wisely and plan ahead of time. Based on our navigation system it should take us 24 plus hours to reach out destination. I like to put things in the car the night before heading out – it makes things less hectic the next day. If you’ll be taking a road trip with a baby/toddler this summer, these are some of my tips.
Pack for baby: Whatever it is that your child is attached to, or enjoys, make sure you bring it along. I pack up Nathaniel’s toys, books, and snacks. I even have his favorite lullabies on a playlist so that they are ready whenever he is ready to fall asleep. Also, make sure you leave everything within reach so that you don’t have to make stops as often.
Pack wisely: To save yourself from having to make more than necessary pit stops, leave bigger items in the trunk only and everything else that you might need during the road trip,
Games: If your family consists of other children, bring along games that are travel-friendly. This will help kids remain entertained.
Patience: If it’s your first time going on a summer road trip with a little one, remember to have lots of patience. There’s probably going to be lots of crying and you have to be ready for it all.
Summer trips are so much fun and I look forward to them every year especially now that I have a child. Do you have any summer road trip destinations planned? What are your favorite road trip destinations? Maybe I’ll check them out next year.
